A Brief History of the Club

The Bassendean Caledonian Soccer Football Club is the oldest surviving soccer club in WA and dates back to 1912, when it was formed by members of  the now defunct Fremantle Caledonian Society.  Based at Fremantle Park and donning the primrose and pink strips that were occasionally used by the Scottish international team, the original Caledonians joined the second division of the Soccer Association.  The outbreak of the first world war in 1914 saw almost of all of the fledgling team's players and officials enlist in the army, where all but five of the first team players were killed.  These war losses were so heavy that the Caledonians could not field a team when the competition resumed in 1919.  By the following year the side had reformed, and it continued to build strength over the following years until the Caledonians became amongst the greatest sides of the competition.

Over its 93 year history, the club has had seven home grounds: Fremantle, East Fremantle, Mosman Park, The Esplanade, Wellington Square, Leederville and its current location of Bassendean.  With these migrations both hardships and great successes came, with many great players representing the various Caledonian teams over the years.  Whilst rival sides have seemingly appeared and disappeared, the club remains as an integral part of the sporting tradition of both soccer and sport in general in WA today.
